June Club Meeting
Last month the club had the privilege of hosting pilot, WWII veteran and author Wes McIntosh. A dozen people joined us for dinner at Alfanoos in Barrie after which we headed to Edenvale where we were joined by another half dozen members. Wes then took the floor reliving a lifetime of adventure, passion, hopes and fears; everything that comes from over 50 years as a professional pilot.
The evening ended with Wes doing a brisk business in book sales. Glen Alton, the winner of the evening's draw, went home with a free copy of Wes' book, Permission Granted.
It was an extraordinary evening offering a glimpse into the life of a man who witnessed half a century from that most unique perspective - the left seat.
New Runway
The paving of the new runway is complete with it opening on schedule on July 1st.
The new paved runway is 13/31 and the new grass runway is 17/35. Edenvale Classic Aircraft Foundation will be using the grass strip for pretty much all of their flights while most other aircraft will be using the paved runways. With occasionally 2 runways active simultaneously it will require close coordination to ensure that no mishaps occur.
Edenvale Aerodrome has published modified circuit procedures that shall be followed whenever 2 runways are in operation at the same time.

July Club Meeting
Thursday July 16th
The club's Director of Flight Operations, Randy Vanness, will be giving a briefing on the above mentioned circuit procedures as our July meeting.
He will also be covering voice procedures while operating in and around an uncontrolled aerodrome and reviewing the airspace changes that came into effect in the Toronto area in May.
These are important safety topics and I encourage all flying members to attend.
Fond Farewell
Longtime member Dan Daigle will be leaving the club next month when he moves to Nova Scotia. Most of you know Dan as the club's PRM for the last 4 years. Dan was instrumental in keeping CMQ airworthy pretty much from the day we bought her. He has worked closely with our AME bringing his years of experience as a military aircraft mechanic.
Those of you who have been with the club longer will recall that Dan was also an aircraft owner keeping his ultralight in the Borden hangar. Between his plane and CMQ, you could pretty much find Dan at the hangar most weekends and certainly anytime there was work to be done.
Dan has retired from the military and will be moving to the Annapolis Valley area of Nova Scotia near Greenwood. In fact, his new house is only minutes from Waterville (CCW3). He sold his ultralight last month but I suspect that there is another chapter of aviation yet to be written to Dan's story. He delayed his move east to help Glen and John finish the restoration of their Republic Sea Bee. So who knows, maybe we will witness an aero-convoy heading to the Maritimes next summer. Whatever the future brings, we wish Dan and his family all the best in this next chapter of their lives. You will be sorely missed Dan.
Platinum Triangle Poker Run
The club will again be participating in the Platinum Triangle Poker Run. Last year the club sold over 90 poker hands and we hope to exceed that this year. The dates of the poker run are August 17 - 22 with Sunday August 23rd reserved as a rain date. More details are available here. Watch the club's website for future details including a request for volunteers to stamp arriving pilots' poker hands.

Hangar Cleanup
Tom Stiff, the club's new Person Responsible for Maintenance (PRM) has re-organized the hangar. He has marked & laid out cleaning supplies, cloths & rags. Tom has done his bit so be sure to do yours. Please clean the leading edges & windshield after each flight.
CYHM
Hamilton airport has waived its landing fees for the remainder of the year.
If you are looking to get some practice at a controlled airport or just want to visit somewhere new this is the time to head to Hamilton. And while you're there be sure to visit the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum located right on the airport.
Our Condolences
On behalf of the entire club I would like to express my condolences to longtime member John Lewis on the passing of his wife Mary on June 20th.
Flight Ops
If you have a question about flight ops or any aspect of flight safety feel free to open a dialogue on the club's Flight Ops forum.
You will find a link to it from the club's home page.
